Application
To achieve our goal of reducing food waste, large scale composting facilities need to be implemented into Hawaii’s waste management systems. Composting cans will need to be provided for every food associated business. Our plan would even create new jobs, similar to trash collectors, compost collectors would need to retrieve the waste in designated composting bins. Composting facilities would also require workers to run the facility and disperse the produced compost.

Locations of Application
Food waste reduction is a must, and what should be done everywhere. Our first goal would be to target places that provide the most food, such as schools and groceries, on Maui and have them reduce the amount of food wasted. However, we do want to eventually involve the entirety of Hawaii to participate as well, to better manage our current resources and share our aloha.

Timeline
With the effects of climate change becoming increasingly more dangerous as the years go by, we would need this new system for reducing food waste to be implemented by 2025-2050.
Financial Support
The cost of this project would include building a composting site, a composting collection service, and employing the people working as composters and collectors. We would get this funding through farms paying for composting services as well as payments from households similar to trash collection payments. Since this would be a government powered plan, we would also be supported through federal funds.
